Bundesliga
In the last Bundesliga season, Niclas Füllkrug and Christopher Nkunku shared top scorer, having both scored 16 goals each after 34 matchdays. In FC Bayern Munich’s 4-2 home win against 1. FC Heidenheim last weekend, Harry Kane scored his 16th and 17th goals of the season, after just eleven days of play. He himself was not even aware of this fact.
“Some people told me there were 16 goals last year,” Kane said after the game. “17 goals at this point is obviously incredible, I’m proud to have started like this.” But thanks go to the team that gave him the opportunities. “I like playing in this team. We create many chances.”

In all competitions, Tottenham Hotspur’s new signing now has 21 goals and seven assists. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund immediately described the Englishman as a “phenomenon” and German national team record holder Lothar Matthäus also spoke highly of Kane.
Lothar Matthäus: Lewandowski’s record in danger
“We always talk about goals, I’m talking about the person Harry Kane”Matthäus said on the talk show “Sky90”. “The goals are wonderful for Bayern Munich and for him personally.”
Matthäus now also sees the Bundesliga record of 41 goals in a season, set by Robert Lewandowski in the 2020/2021 season, in danger. “He can score 45 goals with the support he has in the team”predicted the former Bayern player.

Harry Kane arrived from Tottenham Hotspur for €95 million last summer after a never-ending transfer saga. For Matthäus a price justified in retrospect: “he arrived here with experience, no longer a young player. He is the captain of the English national team and a personality. This is what you bought.”
Matthäus with the hidden criticism of Robert Lewandowski
After Robert Lewandowski left FC Barcelona in the summer of 2022, FC Bayern had been looking for a successor for some time. Sadio Mané was signed by Liverpool FC as a supposed replacement, but he never delivered the desired performances and left Monaco for Saudi Arabia after just a year.
Lothar Matthäus believes Harry Kane is not just Lewandowski’s desired replacement, but even more. “He’s not just a goalscorer, he’s also a leader”said the 62-year-old and added: “He is more of a leader than Robert Lewandowski because he takes responsibility, gives interviews, takes selfies. Bayern needed a guy like that.”

In line with this, a scene of Robert Lewandowski went viral last weekend where he refused to shake hands with 16-year-old Lamine Yamal in the match against Alaves. Shortly thereafter, Lewandowski chastised him when he made what he saw as the wrong decision in a scene.
There later appeared to be a reconciliation between the two, but such a scene seems difficult to imagine with Harry Kane.
Press conferences, training courses, marketing events, video conferences and interviews: Dennis Briege has had a lot on his plate these days. After all, the record-breaking Super Bowl-winning New England Patriots don’t come to Germany every day. And Briege was a wanted man. The Berliner doesn’t even play football.
