Only few German TV programs contain as much potential for conflict and drama as “Sommerhaus der Stars”. The RTL show has already provided some memorable television moments. However, not in a good way.
Consider Georgina Fleur’s ex-girlfriend Kubilay’s spitting attack on former bachelor Andrej Mangold. But the way the couples interacted with each other made people shake their heads repeatedly.
Mike Cees-Monballijn repeatedly criticized his wife Michelle Monballijn and even wanted to forbid her from speaking to the other participants. Even farmer Patrick was rarely charming towards Antonia. And then there are the current candidates Maurice and Ricarda. Plus he couldn’t resist the temptation to lash out at his girlfriend again and again.

These are just some of the chasms that continually open up, especially between people, in the RTL format. Nonetheless – or perhaps precisely because of this – it has been one of the most successful formats on television for years.

However, one thing is extremely clear: RTL wants to do better every season. Only at a certain point will we reach the tip of the iceberg.

This year those responsible sent the drama personified to the “Summer House” with Valentina Doronina and friend Can Kaplan. She did what was expected of her: taunting, complaining, starting fires – to the point of absolute escalation.
The producers of “Summer House” go too far
However, RTL exaggerated on two points: If you bring Valentina into your home, you don’t have to invite many of her enemies with you. The producers of the “Sommerhaus” were probably also aware of the fact that it quickly creates new formats.
So it was on “Celebrity Big Brother,” where he repeatedly railed against Jeremy Fragrance. However, he did not let it bother him and did not respond much to her verbal attacks. However, the candidates selected by the production for the “summer house” usually have a shorter fuse. The unpleasant living conditions on site and the heavy alcohol do the rest.

Although all this should have been clear to the RTL managers, they probably wanted to play it safe with the level of escalation and initially brought one of Valentina’s opponents, Aleks Petrovic, and shortly after Gigi Birofio or rather his girlfriend Dana to the show Feist. Trash TV fans probably knew before the season started that this couldn’t last long.
RTL gambled
RTL has been exploiting the drama surrounding Valentina and Aleks for weeks. When the situation between the two was almost about to get along, the broadcaster practically exploded a hand grenade, with certainly unforeseen consequences.
After the scuffles, Valentina and Can as well as Gigi and Dana had to leave the show. For Valentina the argument didn’t end there: she demanded that RTL show “the truth” long before it was broadcast. She felt like she had been misrepresented even before the season started. RTL has kept a low profile on the matter, stressing only that it does not tolerate violence.
Of course the escalation didn’t hurt the show, or rather the ratings. But RTL may have problems later. Because how can we overcome the drama of this year’s season in the future?
RTL has already “fried” trashy celebrities with the shortest fuse on the show. Elena Miras, Mike Cees or currently Maurice, Aleks, Gigi and Valentina. To do better you need one thing above all: young trashy celebrities. After all: RTL is straight to the source with programs like “Are You The One?”, “Ex on the Beach” or “Bachelor in Paradise”…
It was probably one of the most exhausting seasons of “Sommerhaus der Stars” ever broadcast on RTL. Sure, in the past the nominees for the trashy TV show have been good at smaller and smaller scandals, but this year Valentina Doronina and Can Kaplan in particular topped it all off.
