What is The Pharmacist’s Diaries about? The action takes place in a fictional country during the Ming era in China. Maomao is a young girl who makes a living as a pharmacist in the red light district.
One day she is kidnapped by human traffickers who sell her as a slave to the imperial court. She tries to live a quiet daily life and not attract attention.
Suddenly the emperor’s two sons fall ill. Maomao sets out to find the cause and solve the mystery of his illness. Her actions are so well received that she is hired as a housekeeper. Furthermore, her knowledge as a pharmacist spreads and she receives increasingly bizarre requests and orders.
Moreover, their actions are followed by a beautiful eunuch, whose beauty drives many women crazy. But Maomao doesn’t seem interested in the eunuch’s advances, which always lead to funny situations.
What makes The Pharmacist’s Diaries so special? The protagonist Maomao makes the anime so exciting. She is an inconspicuous loner who likes to conduct poisonous experiments on herself, but suddenly she must take on one of the most important tasks at the imperial court.
I liked Maomao’s combo ability. She is a smart girl, even though she had to grow up in poor circumstances. Thanks to her contacts in the brothel and her knowledge of medicine and herbs, she can cope with any situation in the imperial court.
It’s also exciting to wonder what their customers are suffering from. Who is responsible for the mysterious deaths? And why do many of the characters suddenly become so seriously ill? Maomao has managed to solve every puzzle so far and I love watching her do it.
Where can I watch The Pharmacist’s Diaries? The anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. You can also watch the first three episodes without a subscription. The first season is underway, a new episode will be released every week.
There is an option to switch between Japanese and English dub. However, this only applies to the first three episodes; all subsequent episodes are only available in the original Japanese language with German subtitles.
